HAY is a Danish furniture company founded in 2002 by Mette and Rolf Hay in Copenhagen. The company's mission is to create and offer well-designed furniture that is both accessible and affordable.
The Hays serve as the creative directors of the company, with Rolf overseeing the furniture division and Mette managing accessories. They collaborate closely with both in-house designers and international talents, including Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Nathalie Du Pasquier, Stefan Diez, Johannes Torpe, and Naoto Fukasawa.
In 2018, the U.S. furniture company Herman Miller acquired a 33% equity stake in HAY, and by 2019, increased its ownership to a majority stake. This partnership has facilitated HAY's expansion into the North American market, leading to the opening of stores in cities like Portland, Oregon; Costa Mesa, California; and Chicago, Illinois.

HAY's product portfolio includes a variety of furniture and accessories. Notable designs are the Palissade outdoor furniture collection by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and the "About A" series by Hee Welling, which is among the company's most popular and versatile offerings.
The company also engages in collaborations beyond furniture design. For example, HAY partnered with Danish chef Frederik Bille Brahe to release a range of kitchenware in 2017. Additionally, they teamed up with IKEA to launch the YPPERLIG collection, comprising over 60 products such as sofas, tables, mirrors, trays, and tote bags.
As of 2022, HAY operates 25 stores across nine countries, continuing its commitment to delivering high-quality, thoughtfully designed products to a global audience.
